I have a wide and varied range of teaching and training experience in both the public and academic arenas. This includes training project volunteers for community and arts organisations, museums and archives as well as academic teaching at Access, FE and HE level, on vocational, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. I have a Doctorate in Life History Research, University of Sussex (Awarded 2010) and have completed various courses around best teaching practice including Equality and Diversity Essentials, University of Brighton (2013) and the Associate Tutors Training Course, TLDU, University of Sussex (2005).

Oral history training for Mapping Mithras (University of Brighton). Oral history: research design, method and practice for community heritage projects. April 2023.

Project volunteer trainer (oral history interviewing and exhibition curation) for Sweet Thames: The London Folk Club Heritage Project. Star Creative Heritage (National Lottery Heritage Fund), 2022 – 2023.

Recording oral history interviews for academic research, for the Doctoral College, University of Brighton. A four week course for Phd students from across the university. November 2021.

Exploring Oral History – An Online Introduction to Theory, Best Practice and Developing a Project, for Strike a Light – Arts & Heritage CIC in response to the need for remote training during the Covid 19 pandemic. September – October 2021.

Exploring Oral History – An Online Introduction to Theory, Best Practice and Developing a Project, developed in January 2021 for Strike a Light – Arts & Heritage CIC in response to the need for remote training during the Covid 19 pandemic. Pilot course 14th January – 4th February 2021.

Oral History training and Developing Community Project training for various community and arts organisations for Gateways to the First World War between 2014- 2019. Including Friends of Ellington Park (Ramgate), Congolese Chaplaincy (Shadwell), Westgate Community Trust (Canterbury) and Comhairle Nan Eilean Siar (Western Isles Council).

Course development and tutor for An Anthropology of Ourselves: Exploring Mass Observation for Creative Projects, Special Collections, University of Sussex. Course ran four times between 2012 and 2015.

Project volunteer coordinator and trainer for participatory group editing collected oral history interviews for the book. Brighton Trans*formed: transgender stories from across Brighton and Hove. (QueenSpark Books, Heritage Lottery Fund), 2014.

Project volunteer trainer (oral history interviewing) for Our Dancing Feet Project: History of the Winter Garden, Eastbourne. Project resulted in large-scale artistic and theatrical production (Zap Art & inroads productions, Heritage Lottery Fund, Arts Council England and the Big Lottery Fund). 2013 – 14.

Education Resource facilitator for the Ale and Hearty project Lewes (creating and editing a booklet and learning resource based on collected research resources, including oral history interviews). Strike a Light Community Arts Organisation (Heritage Lottery Fund).

Three projects: the Deaf Histories Hidden Histories, the Rural Communities Plumpton Village History Project and the Migrants in Brighton and Hove Project. (Includes volunteer recruitment for the Plumpton Project.) 2011 – 12.
